Recreating the 1805 Battle of Austerlitz in Moravia ... in Austerlitz, N.Y.

Muskets, loaded! The Napoleonic Brigade Reenactment marches into Old Austerlitz, New York, on August 15 and 16 for a full-blown, uniformed recreation of the 1805 Battle of Austerlitz in Moravia, one of Napoleon’s greatest victories, for which the Columbia County village is named. (August 15 would be Bonaparte’s 240th birthday, too, by the way.)

Part of the New York State Quadricentennial celebrations, the annual event of Napoleonic brigades from Quebec and New England relives France’s epic struggle against Russian-Austrian forces through mock cavalry and infantry skirmishes, complete with soldier drills and maneuvers, tented military encampments, period crafters, and traditional rations and entertainment. [AUGUST 2009]
