When Life Hands You a Lemon...Start Cleaning
When that cool snap breezed into town a couple of weeks ago, I shifted, naturally, into domestic mode. And, for reasons yet unknown, I decided it was time to clean the interior of my microwave.

I didn’t expect it to be that dingy; I barely use the thing. Then again, it hasn’t had a good scrub since I unpacked it from the box, oh, going on five years ago. Gross!
Then I found a brilliant tip (a la Real Simple) that trumps any natural home remedy my mother ever taught me:
- Slice lemon in half
- Place one half in microwave
- Zap for 30 seconds, creating a fragrant, lemony steam
- Scrub inside of microwave with hot lemon and marvel at how gunk and grease just melt away
OK, so using the juice of a lemon as a natural cleanser and deodorizer isn’t exactly rocket science, but nuking said lemon until it's warm and pulpy definitely works like magic. Try it elsewhere in the kitchen, on stoves, fridges, and, of course, anything made of stainless steel....
