Unique to the Terry Clock Company, whose factory was located in Pittsfield, Mass., in the nineteenth century, this Good Luck Alarm Clock ($500), made in 1883, is the most distinctive of three variations of the style made by the company. It features a patented, three-legged balance escapement (as opposed to the usual, made with two weights) and an open front. This small, thirty-hour clock has an engraved brass casing and is topped with a metal dome bell.

“That’s a clock I don’t care if I sell,” muses Aldo Battaini, West Side Clock Shop co-owner and timepiece aficionado. “It’s that rare.” [NOV/DEC 2010]
